This is geometry encoded in luminous gold and materials embodying the four earthly elements. Circles have long been central to my artistic language. I enjoy the symbolism of a circle as well as how circles can come together to create sacred geometry, which is a basis for much of my mandala art. A fascination with codes and symbols, rooted in childhood, drew me to the crop circle geometry featured in this piece. To me, these patterns spark my curiosity, and I long to understand the messages held within circles swirling and orbiting in the ethers. 21.5 × 21.5 inches >10 pounds Shipping to be determined and billed separately.

About this Piece

Perhaps this work is a mysterious doorway to the cosmos. Could its circular center be a vaulted entrance, unlocked by a hidden sequence of buttons pressed or connected? Two crescent moons suggest slivers of goddess and lunar energy, while paired circles joined by parallel lines hint at equinox codes. These possibilities suggest to me a cosmic map entwined with lunar movement.

A circle of green dictated the palette: warm browns, greens, golds, and copper set against chartreuse disks and beautiful green and yellow art glass. Small copper rods separate the pieces of green garnet, while gold-plated pure copper rings frame many of the disks and satellites. The satellites are made from 24-karat gold smalti I purchased at the Orsoni furnaces in Venice, Italy. Art glass in several shades, together with colored mirror and the addition of dichroic glass brings sparkle, reflection, and shifting light to the composition.

A slightly off-center focal point directs the rays and angles of the cut glass, giving the circular design an unexpected sense of movement. Beyond its rings, genuine Swarovski crystals punctuate tinted thinset cement like stars.

I invite you to linger at the threshold: follow the geometry, imagine its messages, and wonder what might lie beyond the vaulted door.
